eat fish.

The most interesting presentation given during the Aldeburgh Food and Drink Festival.

Not just because it was given by John Stein, celebrity chef Rick Stein's brother, but because it showed the effects of nutrition on a neurological level.

There must certainly be a lot more medical jargon to his study but he pared it down to a level where everyone could understand.

I found a podcast of him explaining this, so watch it for a proper explanation but essentially this is what he was saying.
  • Our brains work because of nerve cells.
  • How well they work depends on how well these cells are connected to send signals to one another.
  • Deficiency in fish oil has shown to affect the cells required for visual and auditory functions.

  • In the case of vision, when these connections are impaired, there is weaker control of the eyes.
  • Eyes need to converge to focus.
  • When there is less control, eyes keep moving and that is why 'DOG' is read as 'GOD'.

Made me want to lots of fish.
